About Tax Deed Auction
An alternative way to find a home is to bid for one at a tax deed auction. But how do you know when such an auction is held?
The best thing to do is to keep an eye on the newspaper. Often times tax deed auctions are listed in the newspaper so that the public can see them. The next place to look for is the county’s website. Finally you can simply call the county office and ask them if they have any information on tax deed auctions in your area. Even if they do not, they will at least be able to point you in the right direction.
After you have found a tax deed auction in your area, you will then need to get a listing of the properties that are for sale so that you can research them and determine which ones are best suited for you.
It would be a good idea to have your registration form already completed before you show at a tax deed auction. This will save you the time and hassle of filling it out at the auction.
Do you need to bring along a bidding paddle? It is up to you. You should be able to get one at the auction but do you want to take the chance!
Once the bidding starts, you need to watch out for the houses that you are interested in. Raise the paddle to bid for the property that you want but as usually have a budget in mind and do not bid for more than you can afford.
If you are lucky enough to win a property at a tax deed auction, you will be required to remit payment on the spot. At most tax deed auctions you can pay via cash, cashier’s check, certified bank check, or money order. Personal check and credit card are not accepted at most tax deed auctions.
A tax deed auction is just like most auctions. So, paddle you way to your next home.
