How to Read a Construction Contract?

Never enter into an agreement with a contractor to build your house without a construction contract. A construction contract will protect both the contractor and yourself. There are many cases where people do not get want they want and having a contract can help to solve this problem.

Even though you do not need to be a lawyer to understand a construction contract, it can still be tough to understand especially if you are reading the construction contract for the first time. Some of the terminology may appear foreign to you but if you put your heart to it, you should still be able to understand it

construction contractThe first thing that most people look at is the price.  There is quite naturally but you should look beyond that. You should check to make sure that there are no hidden fees in it and you should clarify on any areas that you do not understand. It is always better to get all the facts up front, rather then to end up with something that you did not expect.

Another important area, other than the price that you should look into is the completion date.  The construction contract must specify a completion date otherwise you leave yourself open to a big problem. The construction contract should also specify your recourse if the project is not completed on time. Many people overlook this area, and it ends up haunting them in the end.

Always read the construction contract carefully.  Ask questions if you do not understand or are uncomfortable with any aspect of the contract. It is better to be upfront than to be sorry.
