Reviewing a Construction Contract
Deciphering a construction contract can be one of the most difficult parts of any project.
I would suggest that you put aside a couple of hours to read the construction contract. Read it word by word and note write down any concerns that you have or parts that you don not understand. Then go back to the contractor to discuss your concerns and seek clarification. Your contractor should be able to help most of the time. By doing this you will be able to catch any details that may turn into problems down the road.
If you have spent the couple of hour and still feel like you are lost, you may wish to consider hiring a lawyer. This is not normally required unless you are dealing with a complex construction contract, in which case you may want to exercise this option.
Find a lawyer that is familiar with property law to review your construction contract. They will be able to point out in short comings, and also advise you on whether or not you should sign the contract.
Reviewing a construction contract can be a difficult task. There are a lot of details that you will have to watch out for, and some of them can be a bit tricky. If all else fails you can still hire a lawyer to carefully read over the construction contract.
